This is the only thought I have for the day: picture your life at its busiest, most hectic and strung out. Do you remember days when you thought, “I wish the world would stop and let me off ?” I do. Well, today is that day. The world has stopped for at least a month. So pretend that this is a GIFT, manna from heaven, and you have earned a much deserved gift of a break from the fast-paced world of work, errands, and nonsense.
Visualize a Hectic Time
The first step to appreciating now is remembering a time in the not too distant past when you were yearning for time to do those things you’ve been neglecting: writing that book, meditating for a full 20 minutes, researching your next adventure, practicing with your French learning app, cleaning out your Gmail In Box.
What are the things you fantasize about having more time to do? We had a particularly nice day Saturday so my hubby and I went out to play our first tennis of the year on very empty courts. It was the best. So you better believe that during this slower time, I’m going to get us out there more often (except it snowed today for 20 minutes, aah, Boise).a Fond Memory
Create a Few Memories
Not only can we pursue more of projects we’ve ignored and journals we haven’t written in, we can also spend more time being with our immediate families or connecting via technology with everyone else we love. If we stay off of the news cycle (another thing to jump off), we can really be creators of little fond memories of doing. I told hubby today that we’ll be doing a daily dance break. Dance breaks are common in my weekly routine, I often put on a song that’s going through my head, inviting me to listen and romp around my room in various gyrations, lyrical movements and elevated jazz hands.
Embrace It
I guess my only real point is embrace this time. Don’t wait for hindsight to cause you to see this for what it can be. Create a routine for your day too that includes all that sleep you’ve been shorting yourself, exercise, shower, drinking water and eating foods that bless your body. Get back to your spiritual practices and goal setting and dream visualizations of all that you desire for your future. Clean your house. Organize your files. Purge.
Don’t long for what you’re missing (people, restaurants, shopping for no reason, a decent chair at your work desk) and miss out on what you’ve really been given: time and space.
And if you’ve suffered illness yourself, or have lost a loved one in this crises, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. None of this is easy. Hopefully it can be meaningful.
